The heart of the group was founded in 1987, which makes AIOWA itself even today. Most of them were members of the theatre group "Népszínház" in Szabadka for a while. The aim of AIOWA is to go beyond the "simple" theatrical way of expression. They considered theatre work as the syncretism and co-existence of all arts, therefore they supported the instigation of more workshops, but from among these only AIOWA Music Section gained more serious successes. One of their most powerful performances was the "Wozzeck", based on Büchner’s writing, which was performed for the last time at International Meeting of Free Theaters II., 1992, in the Old Synagogue.
