Osobniak: Temptation of St.Jerome/ Petrushka - -

26. Wednesday 19:00     Chamber Theatre

60'

The theatre was founded in 1989 by professional actors, who have worked for state theatres, determined to form their own theatre with invited producers and managers. In the first year they worked in the Pavlovski Museum, then in Pushkino. Then they formed their own theatre in a little building in St.Petersburg. They have made nine performances during the last 6 years, seven of these are in their repertoire even today.

Temptation of St.Jerome  Study (on motifs of Bosch’s and Brueghel’s paintings)  It is an attempt to embody the world of medieval master’s paintings which is too hard for the Man with God’s gift, the artist. The monk-artist passes all the pangs: from shakes on his neck up to the cutlass cutting into his live body, and the characters of his paintings push him to the temptation of wealth, power and beauty…
Petrushka  Russian guignol (on A. Schnitke’s music)  What happens to the characters of the ancient show-booth when the performance ends? You can have a look behind the screen where cruel human passions rage…
