Artus (Budapest): PORTRAIT C/8th-9th - -
29. Tuesday 23:30 Old Synagogue

90' |
During each performance a different painter is invited to paint upon a
sheet of glass. The painter’s models are the audience members and the
performance itself. At the same time a computer produces a portrait
based on the faces and names of the viewers and the actors. The
elements of the performance are determined by coincidence. The painter
defines the order of the elements (items). Each time it is different
and no one knows what it will be beforehand. Only the first and the
last actions are predetermined. During one hundred performances one
hundred glass- and one hundred computer portraits will be made. Some
will be exhibited at a later time and some will be used as elements of
the installation in subsequent Artus performances.
Portrait C is the on-land version of the first part of a larger work.
The first two parts will be presented in the studio of the Artus
company. We hope to stage the next ones will, hopefully, be staged on
the Artus barge. Moored on the Danube and floating on the water, the
Artus barge is a sculpture and a theatre in which the viewers are
seated and the performances take place. The whole barge, every inch and
screw, waits for contemporary artists to build it on, to make it into a
sculpture, and to create new performances, concerts and installations
adapted to its form. The Artus barge is an organic work of art which is
continuously developing, growing and changing.
