The Modern Theatre of Myth (USA): Oedipus - -

The Modern Theatre of Myth opened its doors in 1981 in New York. Their
productions were, from the beginning, met with critical acclaim, and
they have travelled the world with a repertoire including mainly plays
by classical Greek authors and by William Shakespeare. In 1991, they
became the first American company to perform at the ancient theatre of
Epidaurus.
The company is dedicated to the performance of ancient and modern
mythology for the audiences of the 21st century. Oedipus is staged as a
futuristic rite of initiation, as all of their performances focus on
the spiritual and ritualistic sensibility at the core of the Greek
tragedy. Oedipus has been performed in churches and theatres as well as
in railroad stations and is minimalistic in its technical demand so as
to focus on the interaction of actor, text and audience.
