'Are you asking what life is? You might as well ask how to define a
carrot. A carrot is a carrot; that's all we can know.' (Chekhov)
Every performance reflects the period when it was put on stage. The
presumption, though, that the world is going to be different by
tomorrow, cannot be a reason for not taking pictures of it today. This
Cherry Orchard is not that Cherry Orchard. This Cherry Orchard is our
own past: the pile of our memories – it is a certain 'next world'
compared to us. It is the realm of death, in which the roles are the
dead. Our group's version of The Cherry Orchard was not written by
Anton Pavlovitch but it could be reasonable even for him.
Chekhov, who was a doctor by profession, was searching for a long time
how he could lessen pain in his own and in his patients' lives. It had
taken him long to realise that telling tales often cured more
effectively than any medical trick did. Similarly, the four-year-old
Moving House Theatre Company is trying to find a cure for the everyday
life by the help of a 'literary pharmacy'. The group's success so far
proves that they have not only found a solution for their own lives,
but they possess enough energy to manage to take their audience,
evening by evening, to the magical world of theatre.
Az előadás a Sophiensäle (Berlin), a Grand Theatre (Groningen), a WUK
Theater (Bécs) és a TRAFÓ (Budapest) koprodukciójában készült./The
performance was made in co-production with the previously mentioned
companies.
