Central Europe Dance Company: Barbarians - -

The performance was inspired by Zsigmond Móricz's short story
'Barbarians.' It takes place on the frictional surface of two cultures.
An archaic and a civilised world look each other steadily in the eyes.
They show a mirror to each other, in which later on they will not be
able to recognise themselves. For there exists no such language in
which they could communicate and understand each other. But how could
they, when on one side the need for language, the lack of proper means
of verbal expression makes interaction, the flow of speech impossible.
The other side is deaf to non-verbal 'speech' and does not even know
its ABC. The looks and winces are quite telling, gestures and movements
are loaded with meaning… The simultaneous representation of these two
worlds, the staging of their referentiality, and that of the breakdown
of their communication is an exciting challenge to a dance theatre. |
