Tom Johnson’s opera from 1971 is a true rarity. The music is somewhat
repetitive and minimalist, consisting of four notes (D, E, A, H), and
only two instruments (a piano and a wooden drum) are used as the
‘orchestra’.
However, there is no need to worry, it abounds in humour. But beware!
It is recommended only for regular opera-goers, to those who go rarely,
and to those who have never been to the opera.
Apart from these people, the most inquisitive ones may also enjoy
themselves. Tonight the singers shall reveal their deepest thoughts.
And feelings. And desires. And the most secret ones, namely, their most
secret thoughts… and feelings… and desires…
The performance is a coproduction of two opera groups: of the young and
talented musical theatre Opera In/Vita and of Compania Dell’Arte, which
wishes to revive classical light opera. |
