Aglija Youth Theatre Studio: Chekhov: The Bear - -

25. Friday 21:00     Old Hungária Hotel

Aglija Youth Theatre Studio was founded in 1995 by Laima Adomaitiene, with young people between the age of 16-20. Their debut, based on a Tennessee Williams play, already won a festival prize. They have participated in several international festivals abroad with their performances, last year ’The Bear’ received the prize of ’best performance’, as well as achieved great success with the audience, at 16th ’ifj. Horváth István’ International Youth Theatre Festival in Kazincbarcika, Hungary.

In Chekhov’s ’The Bear’, a young landlord, Smirnov, losing hope to get money back from his debtors, visits one of them, a widow called Popova, who lives with her servant, Luka. Her unhappy marriage embittered her life. Her husband used to cheat on her, he wasted their money and left her alone at home often. Her mourning is a good pretext to stay away from her husband’s creditors. However, Smirnov has nothing to lose. His cruel measures to get his money back prove to ignore all feelings and emotions.
