How many days do you need to go round the globe? ‘One is enough if
you follow the Sun,’ reply our ‘Csángó’ Hungarian brothers. And to
announce the year’s beginning, they Say Hey, the great blessing,
waking the souls’ doves by using their bullwhips.
‘Saying Hey’ is a large-scale street-theatre performance, a vision of
wheat’s mystery, a venture into mythical time, a conjuring up of the
year’s folklore festivities.
The company wishes to represent a unique image and character at
the open-air festivals of the EU member states by realising a
ceremony theatre, that is, performances without traditional acting
roles. This special form of theatre wants to live on. The play has
proved its viability in Hungary and abroad as well, it met with success
in Karlsruhe and in Banská Bystrica in 2002, and at the Feast of Crafts
and in Esztergom in 2003. |
