The House of Bernarda Alba is a contemporary adaptation of the classical literary piece using elements of both physical and text-based theatre with a focus on music and movement. The performance deals with the tension between generations in a closed system of relations, in a family with no male members. The hiatus originating from this is an essential element of both music and movements. The principal motifs of the performance are the sweltering atmosphere, suppressed passion and subtle gestures. The music was composed by László Bakk-Dávid, who graduated from Liszt Academy in 2014. Kristóf Widder also finished his studies in choreography and directing for physical theatre in 2014 at the University of Theatre and Film Arts.

Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring
premiere

performed by: Fehér László, Gyöngy Zsuzsi, Horkay Barnabás, Lőrinc Katalin, Mészáros Blanka, Nagy Norbert, Pallag Márton, Sipos Vera, Zsigmond Emőke
director-choreographer: Widder Kristóf

This powerful piece by Stravinsky is one of the greatest compositions of the 20th century. It was considered unplayable at the time and its premiere was rather scandalous. Its irregular, very emotional, and sometimes disturbing music has inspired many choreographers. In the centre of the story is a young group which by command of an elder one has to sacrifice a chosen one in order to survive. Through this ritual we focus on the traits of community, how it works, how people can abandon each other, or stick together in danger. A hundred years after the notorious premiere of The Rite of Spring, we try to examine the new patterns of social life where voluntary sacrifice is not common any more, but the expectations of the community can be stronger than ever.
