This year THEALTER focuses again on workshops. Young theatre and drama students will work in two groups under the guidance of two actor-directors.

Andrea Pass is a playwright, director, theatre educator and programme manager of Maneuver Creative Team of Lifeboat Unit, which is the special guest of the festival this year. She has worked with several of the most significant companies and won the István Örkény Grant for Playwrights twice. Three of her productions, New World, Sunflower and The Silent Province are included in the programme of the 27th THEALTER.

Kristóf Widder is a choreographer, director and dancer, who graduated at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in 2014 as a choreographer and director in physical theatre. At the festival, the audience can see him on stage as a dancer in Forte Company’s Concerto and String Quartet No. 5. In addition, as a choreographer-director, he will present his stagings of The House of Bernarda Alba and Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.

The starting point of the workshops is Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, but the workshop leaders are free to choose an approach, a viewpoint. The workshops will end with demonstrations on July 28. Furthermore, two young theatre critics will observe the work process and write about their impressions in a blog.
