A story from Hungary, New World is set at the end of the last century, but resonates with the present, with the racism and intolerance pervading our society. The 16-year-old heroine has to move to a housing estate with her mother after her parents’ divorce. She is first scared by the youth hanging around her house, but they turn out to be very helpful to her and her mother, and she slowly opens up to the extreme right way of thinking these young people represent. They pledge friendship and turn their grievances into hatred and anger against randomly chosen targets – and no one seems to be able to stop them any more.
