Karaván Theatre (Budapest): Hag Tales

22. Monday 15:00     Roma Education Centre

60'

cast: Horváth Gyula, Babócsai Réka, Varga Klára, Horváth Kristóf, Jászberényi Gábor
directed by: Tóth Géza

The performance is based on two folk tales and Tolstoy’s story about the gigantic turnip. The young actors play music, sing folk songs and move their puppets. The tales are told by an old hag, and the magic happens on a table with a village where the puppets live. The actors move around the table completing the puppet show with their gestures. In the meantime, the turnip ripens and the actors try to pull it with the help of the children present.

The performance also serves as an introductory event to the project Let Them Play

Let Them Play aims to improve equal opportunities within the Roma community in Szeged. The first phase during the festival involves a six-day workshop in which participating Roma children, with the supervision of experts, will adapt a tale and present it to family, friends and those interested at the end of the festival. The partners of MASZK Association/THEALTER festival are Caravan Art Foundation and Szeged Roma Self-Government, the main supporter of the project is EEA/Norway Grants.
