The performance is based on texts by Thomas Bernhard, E. T. A. Hoffmann and Robert Franklin Leslie. Bladder Circus Company was formed in 1997 by independent artists with different backgrounds in classical music, theatre or the fine arts. Its productions balance on the threshold of a variety of genres such as circus, happening, chamber opera, musical drama and visual theatre.
'Bladder Circus offers us a snapshot of insecurity, hopelessness, doubt, the loss of values and how all these relate to the existence of the theatre company, mainly without actual references to the where and when. (…) However, what makes Kulterer less universal and more current is its self-reflectivity (to theatre and to the company itself). (…) The actors perform apathy during a tragedy, after something (anything) happened, due to which external circumstances deprive them of their bear-ness; and before something (anything) will happen that will make them change their bear skin.'
