Horses at the Window, rooted in Ionesco’s absurdity, makes fun of absurd drama, and goes back to Greek theatrical traditions just to make history trivial. The play full of superstitious beliefs is an ironic parabola about the war and the horrors preceding a war, and the impossibility of human relations running in a parallel universe.
The drama was banned one day before its world premiere in Bucharest in 1987, and was only performed after 1989 in Romania. Since then, together with the other plays of the Romanian playwright living in France, it has been performed in several countries of Europe, in Russia, Canada and the United States. This is going to be the first time it is staged in Hungary. The Arad Chamber Theatre’s performance is directed by the Romanian director Radu Dinulescu, and played by two Hungarian actors (Tünde Bacskó, member of the Third Theatre of Pécs and Attila Harsányi) and a Romanian Hungarian actor Ernő Tapasz, whose direction of Rudolf Hess’ Ten Commandments at the THEALTER Festival in 2008 received both public and critical acclaim.
