Border station. 50 dollars exchange allotment, butterflies in the stomach at the border, butter, cheese taken out, jeans, Adidas shoes taken in. Market in Subotica, record store on the bottom floor of the city hall, Eurocrem. A man who has an unbearable crush on a woman and another who is trying to belong somewhere in Sweden, in Canada but only finds the feeling of reminiscence.
All these impressions in film, images, music and text. The play is the meeting of two men’s and a woman’s texts. The two men are writers. The woman is a reader and a story-teller. Sometimes writes, too. The men live beyond the line, the woman lives here. And she knows how those two feel.
Ottó Tolnai’s and István Domonkos’ texts written in the both blessed and damned 60s, 70s and 80s still have a message for us, as we are all foundlings of Europe, here at the gates of the Balkans.
