Akhe (Russia): The Imitation of the Drama Machine - -

24. Friday 18:00     Chamber Theatre

60'

The theatre group Akhe was founded in 1989 in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad) and soon became a renowned and successful company in the independent theatre scene. They also made films and have been active as visual artists and set designers. Their performances are often like dreams or rituals in which objects, their symbolic meanings as well as the relationship of actors and objects, play an important role, together with the stage design itself.
The members have often taken part both in different theatre projects by prominent independent theatre makers from Russia (Slava Polunin, Derevo, Formal Theatre) and in international co-operations. They are constantly touring in Europe and overseas. The have been awarded both at several international festivals and at the most prestigious ‘Golden Mask’ festival in Moscow, winning prizes in the independent theatre category. This is the fifth time they have performed at THEALTER.

Pavel Semchenko is a founding member of Akhe, this is his first solo performance. A poetically expressionist piece about experiencing social loneliness, an experiment on himself in which he tries to engage in a dialogue with the ideal partner – the object.
