In our new premiere, we have adapted the story of Don Quixote, focusing on crucial parts of both the novel and the stage adaptations. Don Quixote’s decision is to make a sacrifice. And the biggest sacrifice is you yourself. Don Quixote is lonely. He is alone among his fellow men, still he absorbs the world around him. The world he perceived and understood, the world he thought would understand him. He absorbs the world as photosynthetic organisms absorb the invigorating sunshine. What is the moral here? Do we cling to our illusory world by all means? We keep it tight. Is this a tragedy? Is that the trouble? Hey folks, do get lost in the forest of fairy tales and dreams. We strongly believe that playing helps us have a wider scope beyond our limited life. Don Quixote was born in the wrong age. He is as unhappy as we are in our own age. So we always dream of making theatre where we can be happy, at least for a while. (Zoltán Czene)
SZESZ - Szeged University Theatre was founded in 2003. Its performances are primarily intended for university students, but of course everybody is welcome. SZESZ aims at providing theatre/drama education for young people in the first place. The company is a link between the traditional theatre venues and the fringe theatre scene in Szeged. A truly civil initiative, relying on its own resources.
